The artwork titled, ‘YesJaz 14’ is a bridge between my Pretty Serious Abstractions and my realistic expressive paintings. The way the figure is painted is seen as if the wild colors, shapes and lines in my abstract paintings coalesced, pulled themselves together, or came alive psychologically and physically to be born into a physical body from the wild dynamic forces and rythmns of quantum physics alive in every atom of our cosmos. The figure is calm yet vital, vibrating with sensual, sexual virility yet poised, sedate, languorously at ease – and yet, like a sleepy jungle cat, quite evidently in the force of colors and shapes and muscles and bone, this young man could spring out of the picture plane and embrace you or destroy you.

Additionally, this person is at that stage of youth in which gender is non-binary, incompletely one or the other, yet certainly leaning deeply into a forceful sensuality and passionate existence, so much so that it arrests the viewer into a climax of delight and surprise because it is so youthful, so powerful, so beautiful, so strong and so innocent.

The colors in this dark piece flow everywhere in the foreground and background, fires and dancers are obscured in the far distance, yet we can almost hear the chorale and the heavy drumbeat like an excited heartbeat echoing through the darkness in the painting and in our deep unconsciousness, where all power and love lay waiting to spring out of us at any uncontrolled moment, just like the wild and unpredictable artworks in my abstractions.

Oil and canvas are my choices because I am a traditionalist in a historical sense, and also because the oil gets all over your hands, your easels, your clothes, and your coffee cup as well as all over the convas while soul searching a mixed color scheme to reveal that which pleads and needs to be awakened.

You can own an original drawing or oil painting or purchase a signed limited-edition print on canvas, poster paper, metal, glass, Plexiglas or wood. Just email me to chat with me on the contact page, and please be kind.
